New UN Chemical Labeling Regulations

Mercian Labels are up to date with the latest UN regulations with regards to chemical labeling. We are complient with all changes and our expertise will help you to comply:

The old orange and black hazard symbolsâ„¢ will be replaced by red/black
diamonds called pictograms.

A shake up in the chemicals industry presents new challenges for both
suppliers and users of chemicals:

• The CLP regulation entered into force on 1 January 2009.
• Target date for Classification, Labeling and Packaging of Substances is 1 December 2010.
• The EC directives (67/584/EC and 1999/45/EC) will be repealed with effect from 1 June 2015.

The proposed new regulation will replace the following:

• The Dangerous Substances Directive (67/548/EEC) and
• The Dangerous Preparations Directive (1999/45/EC).

The GHS targets to enhance protection to human health and the environment:

• Providing an internationally comprehensible system for hazard
  communication.
• Providing a recognized framework for those emerging nations without
  an existing system.
• Facilitating international trade in chemicals whose hazards have been
  properly assessed and identified on an international basis.
• Reducing the need for animal testing and evaluation of chemicals.
  

REACH Regulations

The Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals (REACH) Regulation comes into force on 1 June 2007. Mercian Labels can help you comply with these new regulations:

• All chemicals manufactured or imported into the EU in quantities of 1 tonne or more per year.
• Affects manufacturers, importers and their customers.
• Hazard, risk assessment, product classification and labelling information are required.

• Restricts the use of harmful chemicals.
